Winterfest will float your Boat!

Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade sets sail on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. Hailed as the holiday event with a “twist” after all - the floats REALLY do FLOAT,” the Winterfest celebration has something for everyone. Boats of every size from sail to showboat - kayaks to motoryacht – Winterfest is a great event to bring together family, friends and corporate partners together during the holidays. Savvy entries host a pre-parade party and have friend help decorate their boat with inexpensive pre-fab illuminations from retail store or pool together unused holiday lights and decorations from the past. Others have their guests be a part of the decorations with costumes and props. With this year’s parade theme “Dancing thru the Decades” – there is something for everyone to embrace. Boaters can dance the Salsa - put on Flappers and Swing – Hop their Socks Off – Moonwalk along the Waterway or turn up the Heat with a Disco Inferno.

Winterfest is honored this year as the kick-off event for the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Centennial along with a section of the Centennial’s poster showcasing the Parade. 3-D Pop Artist, Charles Fazzino has been chosen as the poster artist for both the Winterfest and the Centennial Celebration this year.

Frank Herhold, retired Executive Director of Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF), and recognized in our community as a champion for the boating industry, will be honored as the 2010 Commodore of Winterfest.

Let's make this year’s parade one for the memory books. Consider entering your vintage boat to honor Fort Lauderdale’s 100th birthday, team-up with a charity to embrace the holiday spirit during December and/or get your friends together to decorate to a dance theme to create your own parade party. You have an opportunity to be a star of the parade by entering your decorated boat for only $35. This entry fee is for either a private or non-profit entry on a privately owned vessel (so you can put a sign on your boat promoting your charity of choice), photograph of your decorated vessel as it travels past our VIP/Judging area and two tickets to our awards dinner.

PROP WAREHOUSE OPEN TO PUBLIC FOR ARTISTIC RECYCLING PROGRAM - Sixth Star Entertainment and Marketing and Trash to Treasure Creative Reuse Center joined forces to recycle used props and scenic décor leftover from special events and transform them into works of art.  For the first time, Sixth Star opened its warehouse to artists and the general public to tour 20,000 square feet of "treasure".  Items run the gamut and include holiday lights, Styrofoam  shapes, 4'x8' painted scenic theatrical flats and cut outs, metal and plastic pieces, and even some household items.

Representatives from Trash to Treasure were on site to assist the public and answered questions about their program.  The efforts are coordinated through a partnership Sixth Star has developed with Trash to Treasure Creative Reuse Center, a 501c3 not for profit organization.  Doug Jones, President of Sixth Star stated, "Sustainability and supporting our local arts community is important to Sixth Star and this is a perfect project for us to support."    F.A.T.
